Ball transport

Balls have to be transported and, at best, sorted by color. Can you even manage to transport the cups?

The following applies to all tasks: Basic rules

You can make markings on the game board with pens, for example to indicate the starting position of your robot or other parts. You may also stick components such as robots, linear axes or other Lego® hardware on the game board (perhaps with Sellotape), for example to lock them in place or as a boundary. Using several robots and controlling the robot with a remote control is also generally permitted. However, it will be assessed less favorably compared to other groups if they solve the task with only one robot and without a remote control.

Once you have decided on a task, you can no longer change your decision after registering. Your choice is binding. However, you do not have to decide on a difficulty level, just see how far you get and start with the first difficulty level. On the final day, each team has up to 3 attempts to present their robot, because we know that inexplicable mistakes can always occur. You can also use the trials on the final day to show a different level of difficulty if you want to be on the safe side. Just decide as a team what your strategy is for the final.

Allowed materials:

  1. Both EV3 and Spike Prime sets may be used.
  2. The number of motors, hubs and sensors is not limited.
  3. Any number of LEGO® components may be used.
  4. Own 3D printed parts or non LEGO® parts are not allowed.
  5. The game plans must be printed on DIN A3.
  6. The specified additional components for the task can be collected from the FFT reception in Fulda.

Building instructions

Last year we linked a recommended building instruction for you for each task. This is different this year.
Nevertheless, we want to give you the opportunity to browse through these pages to find a suitable basic model of the robot or individual components:

Strategy experts take note Card juggler

Sort the cards
The Skat cards provided by FFT must be used. These cards must be shuffled according to the level of difficulty and fed to the robot to start solving the task. On the final day, the jury will shuffle the cards in random order. The same game plan with new challenges applies for each difficulty level. Three game plan variants are prepared, from which you can choose one or develop your own concept.

Info: If you do not have the possibility to print the game plan in color on DIN A3, you can pick it up at FFT with the additional components specified for the task.

Sorting the cards individually
The cards are fed to the robot individually or placed manually in a self-built device. The robot's task is to recognize the color of the card (black or red) and place it on the two fields (black and red). The task is considered completed when no more than 2 of the 15 cards placed have been sorted incorrectly. You can stick borders around the color fields or place your own drop boxes on the fields.

Sorting the entire pile
All 32 cards are shuffled and placed in a self-built pile and made available to the robot. The robot must now sort the cards by color (red and black) without a team member intervening in the sorting process. The task is considered completed when all 32 cards have been sorted with a maximum of 4 incorrect throws.

For all creative hobbyists Long shot

Whose ball will fly further?
This year's creative task involves throwing, shooting, catapulting, hitting, blowing or hurling a table tennis ball as far as possible.
As you can see, the possibilities are endless, but the task is quite simple. The robot must stand behind the starting line of the game board, from which the distance of the ball is measured until it hits the ground for the first time.

Info: If you do not have the possibility to print the game plan in color on DIN A3, you can get it from FFT with the additional components specified for the task.

For logistics geniuses Ball transport

Transport and sort balls
The red, blue, green and yellow balls and platforms provided must be used. Place the balls in any order on the platforms, which are placed in random order on the printed yellow starting fields. Now you can start solving the task. On the final day, the jury will place the balls and the pedestals in random order on the starting positions. There is a new game plan and new challenges for each level of difficulty.

Tip: In order not to impair the functioning of the robot, you can cut off or paint over the white print borders.

Info: If you do not have the possibility to print the game board in color on DIN A3, you can pick it up from FFT with the additional components specified for the task.

Easy transportation of the balls
The robot must transport the balls from the 4 starting positions to the target area. The task is completed when all the wooden balls are in the target area. The color order does not matter.

Tip: The target area may be bordered by components attached to the game board (e.g. with glue) to prevent the balls from rolling away. You can also glue the platforms on the starting positions.

Accurate placement of the balls
There are already platforms on the target fields for this task. The color of the platforms at the finish does not matter. The robot must place the balls from the 4 pedestals in the starting position onto the 4 pedestals in the target. The task is considered completed when all the balls are on the target positions. The color order of the balls and platforms does not matter.

Tip:You can stick the pedestals at the start and finish.

Sort the cups and balls by color
The robot must bring the balls and pedestals in the correct color sequence from the 4 starting positions to the 4 target positions. Red cup and red ball on the red field etc... The task is considered completed when all balls and all pedestals are in the correct target positions. An additional black pedestal may be glued to the middle target field as a temporary storage place.
