Tools and devices GEO lightweight gripper
The tools and devices are transferred automatically by robots. The lightweight construction enables the robot to carry a higher payload, as a heavier conventional construction, e.g. aluminium/steel frame, can be dispensed with.
In the automotive industry, these so-called framers are used to join the roof or side panels of a vehicle body.
The framer offers numerous advantages, including a wide range of variants, improved accessibility for joining processes and a particularly space-saving design with low weight:
- Depending on the product, different moulds can be changed and interlocked via coupling points.
- Thanks to the free design of the integral frame, this can be specifically adapted to the vehicle/product, thus ensuring optimum accessibility.
- The absence of steel structures enables a compact design: Long distances, large stations, massive steel frames and correspondingly large linear traversing units can be omitted.
Handling gripper Application examples
Large-ZB handling
Thanks to the lightweight frame, one robot can handle 8 different derivatives and has a span of more than 7 metres.
LH/RH double gripper
The advantage here is cycle time optimisation, as small and agile robots are used. These can handle 2 different components by combining insertion and removal into one handling process.
Multi-type UB handling
This handling gripper can handle 4 different centre distances (thus 4 derivatives) by changing the length using a linear unit.

Joining cell with SmartBOX Process / GEO gripper
The SmartBOX enables process and GEO operations using the integral frames.
Example - spot welding:
These frames are used to pick up individual components one after the other with an exact shape and clamp them together precisely. The GEO points ensure that the individual components are joined together to form a complete component. The component is then welded and stiffened using a ReSpot process. This ensures a certain degree of stability.
Other joining processes:
Adhesive applications, tile hole punching, friction stir welding, MIG welding
Segmentation and fixing of GEO grippers Technical specifications
