A passion for technology and team spirit: the Robot Masters Cup inspires over 70 budding inventors
For the third year running, FFT Produktionssysteme GmbH & Co. KG has organised the school competition for pupils in the region with a passion for technology. The final of this year’s Lego competition took place on 19 June at the company’s main site in Fulda. With more than 70 participants in 24 teams, the event was once again a great success. As well as schools from Fulda, schools from Schlüchtern and the Vogelsberg district also took part.
The teams, consisting of between two and five pupils, spent around 18 weeks working on one of three creative engineering challenges as part of their school clubs.
The options were:
- Tower Builders – How high can your tower grow? Creativity, teamwork and clever design are needed to stack as many sponges as possible in a stable way
- Can Lid Mayhem – Strategic thinking and precise robot control: Remove the lids from the cans and sort them perfectly!
- Transport Vehicle – Pure logistics: Transport the barrels accurately and quickly without touching any obstacles!
Two of the tasks offered three different levels of difficulty, allowing teams to work at a level suited to their individual abilities.
On the day of the final, the pupils began setting up their designs at 09:00 and used the time to carry out final tests. Following an official welcome, the teams presented their results to a panel of expert judges, who assessed both the technical execution and the creativity and best team performance.
In the end, the jury awarded prizes to six winning teams – two for each task: one for the most technically sophisticated solution and one for the best team performance. The prize-giving ceremony took place at around 12.30 pm. As well as medals and certificates, the winners received cinema vouchers. All participants were given a water bottle as a small gift in recognition of their efforts.
Refreshments were also provided. After the competition, the young technicians were able to refuel with sausages from the trainee barbecue and cold drinks.
Torsten Trabert from the training department is delighted with the solutions devised: “It’s impressive to see the commitment and enthusiasm with which the students approached the tasks. Many teams have developed creative and technically well-thought-out solutions that demonstrate just how much potential lies within the young talents of our region.”
Through this competition, FFT aims to inspire young people at an early stage to take an interest in technology, robotics and innovative solutions, and to give them the opportunity to demonstrate their skills in a practical setting.
